Adam Herald Memorial Award

To be awarded each year to the KIBIHT player who has overcome adversity and best exemplifies dedication to the game of hockey.

Adam Herold played in KIBIHT 2016 as a member of the Balgonie Prairie Storm. Adam was captain of his team, obviously their leader and best player on the ice, and was ultimately selected to the All-Star team and as Top Defenseman for the tournament. That is part of the story. We got to know Adam through the award, but also when he and his father agreed to participate in a video that was being filmed that year to promote the tournament. It became pretty evident to those involved that this was not your typical 14 year old hockey player, but someone who was mature well beyond his years who absolutely loved the game of hockey, and a young gentlemen who would be successful in whatever he chose to do in life.

Adam had a very successful 2018 season as Captain of the Midget AAA Regina Pat Canadians. He was called up after his season to play for the Western Hockey League's Prince Albert Raiders to join the team during their playoff run and subsequently loaned to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Humboldt Broncos to help with their playoffs as well. On April 6th, 2018, the Humboldt Broncos' bus was involved in a major accident on the way to a playoff game in Nipawin. The accident took the lives of 16 members of the Humboldt Broncos' organization, including Adam Herold. He died just 6 days before his 17th birthday.

Even though Adam has left us far too soon, his memory will live on in a way that may make the lives others better through the formation of the Adam Herold Legacy Foundation. The Foundation was established to provide opportunities to under-privileged Saskatchewan youth to develop and refine not only their hockey skills, but also their leadership potential. The goal is simple - "to build better hockey players and, more importantly, to nurture and support strong community-minded leaders".

The KIBIHT Board is proud to offer this award in Adam's name each year to the current player who has overcome some form of adversity and best exemplifies dedication to the game of hockey, the way Adam did.

Last year's recipient of the award was Rylan Davis of the North East Trackers
